Candice Mansell embarked on her NHS career in 2001, beginning as an IHCD ambulance technician. By 2003, she had completed her paramedic qualification through the traditional apprenticeship route, as formal degree programs were not yet available. Over a distinguished 14-year pre-hospital career, Candice pursued a BSc in Paramedic Science and a PGCert in Critical Care from Warwick Medical School, enhancing her expertise while serving as a Critical Care Practitioner with the Midlands Air Ambulance for six years. During this period, she also completed the NHS Engaging Leaders programme.
In 2015, Candice transitioned to a hospital setting, undertaking a three-year MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice funded by Health Education England (now NHS England). Her clinical focus spanned both Acute and Emergency Medicine. Since 2018, Candice has been a dedicated Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in Emergency Medicine at her current NHS Trust, contributing to high-quality patient care within a multidisciplinary team of Allied Health Professionals. Her commitment to education and training is evident as she instructs Advanced Life Support (ALS) and European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS) courses as a Resuscitation Council UK Instructor. Additionally, she is pursuing accreditation with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).
Currently concluding a 16-month secondment with NHS England as the region's first Paramedic Clinical Leadership Fellow in the AHP Workforce, Training and Education Directorate, Candice is actively involved in leadership development. She is completing the NHS England Rosalind Franklin Leadership Programme, a Level 6 Institute of Leadership and Management Qualification, and the Oxford College of Management APM qualification.
Candice's professional journey also includes experience as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP) in primary care settings, such as GP practices, walk-in centres, and urgent care centres. Her recent workstreams highlight her commitment to advancing paramedic education beyond traditional ambulance roles, including placements in GP practices and mental health settings. She has contributed to national scoping projects, AHP Return to Practice initiatives, and the development of an AHP Preceptorship Framework. Additionally, Candice has engaged in paramedic diversity research at a regional higher education institution, offering her expertise as a peer reviewer.
Candice Mansell's extensive experience and dedication to continuous professional development underscore her commitment to excellence in patient care and the advancement of the paramedic profession and supporting the growth of Allied Health Professionals.
