Dr Sam Bethapudi

Dr. Bethapudi is a senior consultant in General Practice, with over two decades of experience in direct patient care, postgraduate education, peer support, and mentorship. Dr. Bethapudi was awarded FRCGP in 2019 for his contributions to General Practice by the Royal College of General Practitioners, London.

He has an interest in the field of health inequalities and wider determinants of health. Dr. Bethapudi is also a GP Appraiser and sits on the Northern England Clinical Senate, is a faculty board member of the RCGP Northeast England, and is a mentor at Durham University.

Dr. Bethapudi is the chair and founder of BAPCAP. Along with Dr. Nagu, he shares a vision of joined-up healthcare which is inclusive, supportive, and promotes the wellbeing of patients, professionals, and the communities they serve.

Dr. Nagu Penakacherla

Dr. Nagu Penakacherla is the president, CEO and founder of the British Association of Primary Care and Allied Professionals (BAPCAP) friends group. Driven by a strong sense of giving back to the society that has supported him, Dr. Penakacherla, along with his senior colleague Dr. Sam, conceived the idea of BAPCAP during their first meeting at an RCGP conference. This platform aims to bring primary care and allied professionals together to enhance their skills and work for the betterment of the community at large.

A Portfolio General Practitioner (GP), Dr. Penakacherla has risen from humble beginnings to become a beacon of compassionate healthcare. Born to proud working-class parents, he intimately understands the struggles of the poor and middle-class. This personal experience has shaped his empathetic approach to patient care, resulting in a remarkable 97% trust rating from patients, significantly surpassing the average. Dr. Penakacherla consistently earns accolades for his human touch, embodying empathy and understanding in every interaction.

Dr. Penakacherla has cultivated a vast network across the globe through his work and studies in various countries, leveraging these connections to strengthen international ties and propel Britain forward. As a Birmingham Representative for the West Midlands RCGP faculty, he plays an integral role in shaping the future of primary care, advocating for equitable healthcare access and representation.

With triple postgraduate qualifications in public health and primary care, including a Master’s from the University of Cincinnati in Health Promotion and Education, and a Family Medicine postgraduation in India, he is a distinguished member of the Royal College of GPs, as well as a Fellow of the RSA and FRSPH. His credentials also include a Diplomate of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and a Diploma in MSK Medicine. Additionally, he completed the European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care, gaining a deep understanding of this field.

Driven by a passion for research, Dr. Penakacherla collaborated with European doctors to publish research on COVID-19, contributing to the global understanding of the pandemic’s impact on healthcare. He has diverse special interests in Dermatology, Sleep Medicine, Diabetes, Women’s Health, Palliative Care, MSK Medicine, Medical Education, and Public Health. He also has special interest and is certified professional in Adult ADHD. With an unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation, Dr. Penakacherla continues to be a transformative force in the field of healthcare.

He has presented numerous posters on quality improvement projects and published his research in national and international conferences and journals. He recently completed a Long COVID project at his practice, benefiting other practices in his Primary Care Network (PCN). Certified as a Principal Investigator, he is also a University of Oxford-trained CBTi therapist for insomnia. As a speaker on insomnia, he frequently shares his knowledge with peers and other doctors.

Dr. Penakacherla's vision is to expand BAPCAP globally, providing education and leadership support to doctors worldwide for their professional growth and enhancing global health.
